Prayer and Fasting

I Corinthians 15:34 says, “Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.”  I believe this scripture applies to both the Church and our nation.  The Church has either been lulled to sleep or become intoxicated with worldly things and has forgotten God.  The Apostle’s command is for us to again awaken to and receive the revelation of God’s righteousness. When we as Believers walk in our righteousness with God, we will have power over sin.

To walk in righteousness we must have a revelation knowledge of God.  God must become real to us again.  To gain revelation knowledge we must have a fresh new move of the Holy Spirit and a return to the Word of God.

In Ephesians 1:17,18, Paul prayed, “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.”  I believe we, too, in this hour need to cry out to God to pour out His Spirit of wisdom and revelation.  We need to pray for hearts to be receptive to the revelation knowledge of God’s Word.  We need to pray for people to awaken and be able to see the greatness of God and all He has done for us.

II Peter 1:2-4 says, “Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”  Only through the knowledge of God’s precious promises can we escape the corruption of this world and partake of God’s divine nature. We must have a spiritual awakening to the righteousness of God.

A national fast has been called for all Believers to join in prayer and fasting for our nation to return to righteousness. This time of prayer and fasting is to go until October 30, 2010.  In Matthew 17:21, the Lord Jesus said, “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.”  To generate the power needed to push back the forces of darkness and to set people free, extra effort is sometimes needed. This is where fasting and prayer come in.  From now until October 30, ask the Lord what He would have you to fast for His power to be poured out and our nation to return unto righteousness.  Then set yourself to pray every day for a great, new, spiritual awakening.

In Isaiah 58:6-12, the Lord shows us what His chosen fast should accomplish.  To help us pray, I have written out an Isaiah 58 prayer.  I ask you to join with me every day from now until October 30 in praying this prayer.  Together, with Believers across our nation, we can pray righteousness back into our Church and nation.

ISAIAH 58 PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, I consecrate myself to You, to pray and fast.  To seek Your face.  To call upon Your name.  To stand in the gap.  To make up the hedge.  To be one that will call upon You to see Your will done in my life, my church, and my nation.

Therefore, this day I believe You that as I fast and pray, You loose the bands of wickedness, You undo the heavy burdens, You let the oppressed go free and You break every yoke.

You anoint us to deal bread to the hungry, to bring the poor and the outcast to Your house.  To cover those who are hurting with the love of God and the faith of God.

I thank You, Lord, that You cause my light to break forth as the morning.  You cause my health to spring forth speedily.  Your righteousness directs my steps and guides my path and Your glory is my rereward.

Lord, I thank You.  Today, I call upon You and You answer me.  I cry out to You and You say, “Here I am!”  Because I’m taking away from me the very yoke, the very thing, that I’ve held onto that’s kept me from following You.  I surrender my whole life to You and I receive You purging me and destroying that yoke out of my life.  I put away from me the pointing of the finger and a scornful attitude.  I submit my attitude to You.  I receive an attitude of holiness.  An attitude of love. An attitude of compassion.  I thank You, Lord, that You are Lord over my attitude, and I put away the speaking of vanity.

I cause my confession to be a confession of faith.  I’m going to speak Your Word.  I’m going to declare Your truth and I draw out my soul to the hungry, and I reach out with a helping hand to every afflicted soul.  I thank You, Lord, You cause my light to rise in obscurity.  You make my darkness as the noonday.

Lord, I believe You, that You guide me continually.  You satisfy my soul.  You take care of me even in drought.  You make fat my bones.  I shall be like a watered garden.  I shall be a spring of water, whose waters fail not and I believe, Lord, that You release righteousness upon our nation.  That you bless our nation and You cause us to rise up and build the old waste places.  You cause us to rise up and raise the foundations of many generations, and we shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of the paths to dwell in.

Lord, we delight ourselves in You and we thank You, Lord, that You give us the victory and cause us to ride upon high places of the earth.  You feed us with the heritage of our father Jacob and You cause us to be blessed and a blessing.  This day, Lord, we thank You for turning our captivity and releasing Your blessing and righteousness upon our land.  For we claim it now.  In Jesus name, Amen.
